  1.                            WELCOME TO RBBS-VERIFY!
  2.                            -----------------------
  3. This text has been included to provide you with important last minute infor-
  4. mation, we recommend you read the following important details regarding the
  5. RBBS-Verify online door before attempting to use the software for the first
  6. time.
  7.  
  8. AUTHENTIC VERIFICATION
  9. ----------------------
  10. RBBS-Verify is distributed as a self extracting archive created with PKsfx
  11. v2.04g containing authenticity. When run, -AV should appear beside each file
  12. in the archive as it is decompressed, when decompression has completed, you
  13. should see a message similar to the following:

  18. If either of the above do not exist, this indicates that you do not have an
  19. original copy of the software distributed by us, you are therefore HIGHLY
  20. encouraged NOT to use the software. This warning is provided for your own
  21. safety and to protect you against viruses, tojans, modified files, etc.
  22. Remember, you can always obtain an official copy of the RBBS-Verify door
  23. directly from us via our support BBS, the number is located at the end of
  24. this document.

  26. Please, when distributing RBBS-Verify, distribute the original evaluation
  27. copy of the RBBSV100.EXE archive as this helps protect you and others who
  28. receive the software, you may freely recompress this file and include it in
  29. any other archive format you wish. Just be sure that the original self
  30. extracting file has been distributed.
  31.  
  32. ZIP/EXE FILE FORMAT
  33. -------------------
  34. Since many systems do not directly support uploads of *.EXE format files, you
  35. might have received a different archive format. We distribute both a *.EXE and
  36. *.ZIP archive, both of the original archives distributed by us will contain
  37. authenticity verification. However if you received a different archive format
  38. other than *.EXE that doesn't contain authenticity, check inside for a self
  39. extracting archive. If it contains the self extracting archive, decompress
  40. the archive making sure it contains authenticity as described above, as long
  41. as the original self extracting file includes authentic file verification, you
  42. have received a original copy of the software.

  44. SUPPORT SHAREWARE!
  45. ------------------
  46. We know there are many other callback verification doors out there, but we
  47. also know that none compare to RBBS-Verify! RBBS-Verify is the result of our
  48. belief and desire for a better callback verification door for RBBS systems,
  49. it is the result of endless development time, and as time goes by it will
  50. continue to be enhanced with yet even more special features. RBBS-Verify is
  51. priced very affordable, and offers features no other door on the market has.
  52. It has been designed as an intelligent and reliable door, it has been beta
  53. tested on multiple systems under very "rough" conditions, and has never
  54. failed one time to accomplish it's task. When we say intelligent, we mean
  55. not only the major program features, but all of the doors extra "smart"
  56.  
  57. features. It is these type of features that make RBBS-Verify the choice of
  58. hundreds of RBBS systems worldwide. We hope that it meets you and your
  59. systems needs, and if after running the door on your own system, if you
  60. determine it to be of value, then you are obligated to register the software
  61. in order to continue it's use. Thank you for choosing RBBS-Verify!

  63. BRUN45.EXE
  64. ----------
  65. As documented in the user's guide for RBBS-Verify, the door does NOT require
  66. any run-time modules what so ever to operate. However there is several patch
  67. utilities that DO require the Microsoft run-time module BRUN45.EXE, you
  68. therefore should aqquire a copy of BRUN45. We did not include a copy with
  69. RBBS-Verify due to the already large size of the distribution archives, you
  70. can most likely though find a copy on your local BBS, if not, you can obtain
  71. a copy directly from us under the filename of BRUN45.ZIP, new user's are
  72. free to download on their first call. The number can be found at the end of
  73. this document. Also, please note that a patched copy is not necessary, since
  74. none of our door patch utilities uses the communication port in any manner,
  75. so therefore you may use either a normal or patched copy.

  77. SHELL TO DOS NOTES
  78. ------------------
  79. Since RBBS-Verify is a large application only so much memory will be made
  80. available when shelling (dropping) to DOS, if you frequently drop to DOS
  81. in order to run another application, you might wish to look into a utility
  82. known as SHROOM. SHROOM is a very nice shareware application which intercepts
  83. an application's shell and swaps the entire application out of memory, which
  84. instantly frees almost all conventional memory, when exiting the shell,
  85. SHROOM automatically swaps the application back in to memory and returns
  86. control to the application. Since RBBS-Verify uses internal program overlays,
  87. shelling to DOS and running another application can cause problems, especially
  88. if the application trys to take part of the doors memory. Shelling to DOS
  89. to perform routine tasks and running small applications will not cause any
  90. problem, however if you frequently run larger applications in DOS shells,
  91. you should highly consider using a utility such as SHROOM. SHROOM is
  92. available on our support BBS under the filename of SHROOM9C.ZIP.

  94. SYSOP CHAT/SHELL TO DOS NOTES
  95. -----------------------------
  96. When entering Sysop chat with a user - RBBS-Verify will change the caller's
  97. time to 999 minutes, this is normal and prevents the user from running out
  98. of online system time during chat mode, after exiting chat mode, the user's
  99. time limit will return to the previous value. This also applies to the Sysop
  100. drop to DOS function. Also please note that RBBS-Verify does not track
  101. keyboard input time during Sysop chat mode.
  102.  
  103. NODE PARAMETER NOTE
  104. -------------------
  105. RBBS-Verify will default to 1 if no node number is specified, so, if you will
  106. be using the door on a single node only system it is not required to specify
  107. a node number.
  108.  
  109. BAUD RATES/PARITY SUPPORTED
  110. ---------------------------
  111. RBBS-Verify directly supports up to 115,200 BPS locked DTE, without using any
  112.  
  113. fossil driver. However, it is important to note that RBBS-PC supports up to
  114. a maximum of 38,400 BPS, therefore you will not be able to use RBBS-Verify
  115. at any higher rate than 38,400. RBBS-Verify also supports both 8,N,1 and
  116. the odd 7,E,1 parity.
  117.  
  118. KNOWN BUGS
  119. ----------
  120. Although RBBS-Verify has been developed to eliminate all possible problems
  121. with the software, there unfortunately is no way to rid any software product
  122. of all bugs. The following details the known problems with RBBS-Verify v1.00.
  123.  
  124. There are several small bugs present in v4.0 of the Door Source library, the
  125. known problems which you are most likely to encounter while running the
  126. RBBS-Verify online door are as follows:
  127.  
  128. Midnight roll-over bug: At midnight you might notice that the user's timeleft
  129. displayed on the status line jumps up to an odd number in the thousands, this
  130. does NOT cause any problem with RBBS-Verify itself, nor does it cause any
  131. problem with RBBS-PC, however does cause the status bar to display an invalid
  132. timeleft value, and may cause RBBS-Verify to pass a invalid timeleft value
  133. via the SUCCESSV.x and SUCCESSC.x door information files.
  134.  
  135. User name bug: RBBS-Verify uses an internal convert routine to change a user's
  136. name to proper upper and lowercase characters, unfortunately there is a
  137. problem in this Door Source library routine which if a period is found any-
  138. where in the user's name RBBS-Verify generates a fatal error, this is a
  139. non-recoverable Illegal function call error. We have written a patch utility
  140. which will correct this problem with RBBS-Verify, if you experience these
  141. errors, you should install this utility, we HIGHLY recommend you install this
  142. utility anyway as it will prevent these problems. See PATCHINF.DOC for setup
  143. instructions.

  145. The 2 problems above deal with the Door Source v4.0 library, neither is a
  146. major problem, both are very minor. As soon as these problems are corrected
  147. with Door Source there will be a bug fix version of RBBS-Verify released.
  148.  
  149. If you have found a problem with RBBS-Verify that is not already covered
  150. here - please let us know! Call our 24 hour support BBS or write to us at
  151. the address located at the end of this document and help us find and correct
  152. the problem!

  154. WHAT DOES RBBS-VERIFY REQUIRE?
  155. ------------------------------
  156. RBBS-Verify is a large door and therefore does have several requirements
  157. which your system must meet in order to operate the door, these are as
  158. follows:
  159.  
  160. - Minimum of 512K RAM (640K is recommended)
  161. - DOS operating system version 3.0 or above
  162. - Working serial I/O communication port
  163. - Modem supporting the Hayes "AT" command set
  164. - RBBS-PC v16.x or greater
  165.  
  166. RBBS-Verify requires the DOS operating system v3.0 or above since all files
  167. are opened in "SHARED" mode. RBBS-Verify fully supports all network and
  168.  
  169. multitasking software and has successfully been tested with Microsoft
  170. Windows and DesqView running multiple nodes with locked communication ports.
  171.  
  172. NOTE ON FILE-LOCKING
  173. --------------------
  174. RBBS-Verify has been developed in a network environment and fully supports
  175. file sharing and locking abilities to allow multiple nodes to use the door
  176. at the same time, however in order for this feature to be active SHARE.EXE
  177. (included with DOS) or an equilivent utility *MUST* be active! If you are
  178. operating in a network environment such as a multitasker or LAN, please be
  179. sure file sharing is active. Failure to follow this simple instruction can
  180. result in lost/corrupted files. You have been warned!
